The 2019 Ford Ranger is ready for its comeback - and, while it's still recognizable as Ford's classic mid-size truck, it's also a new beast altogether.
2019 Ford Ranger Preview
What Will I Find at the Dealership?
The newly redesigned 2019 Ford Ranger will be available as base XL, mid-range XLT, and upscale Lariat models. Like other Ford trucks, the upcoming Ranger will be available with either a crew or extended cab, both of which provide two rows of passenger space and enough elbowroom for your whole crew. Unfortunately, there's no regular cab option.
As you may have guessed, you can choose between rear-wheel drive and part-time four-wheel drive, the latter of which sets you up for extended forays into the wilderness. You can spruce up performance with the FX2 or FX4 Off-Road packages, which include all-terrain tires and skid plates to help you navigate especially difficult terrain.
What's Under the Hood?
The 2019 Ford Ranger will be available with one engine - and an impressive one at that. The turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder piles on the power, churning out the horsepower you need for towing and hauling. However, it also maximizes fuel economy. When you hit a red light, the stop-start system shuts the engine down, so you don't waste any fuel idling around. The ten-speed automatic transmission is another boon, setting you up with a smooth ride and conserving fuel at high speeds.
What's Inside the 2019 Ford Ranger?
To start, you'll find supportive seating, creating a comfortable space for your off-road adventures. But there's also a range of modern infotainment gadgets, the centerpiece of which is the SYNC 3 system. SYNC 3 includes a crisp, easy-to-use touchscreen and handy voice controls, keeping you connected with minimal distraction from the task at hand. And, of course, the Ranger's Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone capabilities are a must-have. This technology does a lot more than stream music from your device - it displays apps like Maps and Messages on your central touchscreen.
What Safety Features Will Be Available?
All 2019 Ford Ranger models will come standard with automatic emergency braking, modern technology designed to bring you up short of danger - or mitigate damages if a collision does occur. The mid-range XLT adds a roster of safety features, including blind-spot monitoring and lane keeping assist, both of which are quick to alert you to danger. In the top-trim Lariat, the automatic emergency braking system includes pedestrian detection, helping you travel through crowded work sites without an incident.
