The 2020 Ford Edge and 2020 Nissan Murano are two midsize SUVs to consider, but the Ford Edge’s quality and value make it a solid choice. Let’s look at their comparisons. If you are in the Denver area, come take a look at Brighton Ford.
The 2020 Ford Edge seats five and has plenty of passenger space, with roomy seats and an impressive amount of cargo room. The Edge has 6 more cubic feet of cargo space than the Murano; and has one of the largest cargo capacities among its competitors. It offers 39.2 cubic feet of cargo space that expands to a maximum of 73.4 cubic feet when the seats are folded down. It has a solid build with impressive cabin materials; and it keeps quiet even at increased speeds. The driver’s seat comes standard with a 10-way power-adjustable seat; and provides great visibility on the road. Options include synthetic or genuine leather upholstery, a power-adjustable passenger seat, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, driver’s seat memory settings, and leather-wrapped, heated, and power-tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel.
The Murano hasn’t gone through a redesign since 2015, so it lacks the modern feel of its competitors. It is comfortable in its design, with generous head and legroom throughout the cabin, but its SUV label doesn’t offer many SUV options. It seats five in two rows, but its modest cargo space is not practical and limits what you can bring on your road trips. There is 32.1 cubic feet of cargo space behind the Murano’s rear seats and only 67 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. It looks stylish with its sloping roofline but limits rear visibility.
Power, Handling, and Price
The Ford Edge comes standard with a powerful turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine with 250 horsepower and an eight-speed automatic transmission. It has quick acceleration and delivers smooth and timely shifts. The sporty Edge ST is even more powerful and features a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine with 335 horsepower. The standard front-wheel drive gets an impressive EPA-estimated 21/29 mpg city and highway. The Edge offers 19/26 mpg city and highway for the EcoBoost engine. Ford Edge is stable and composed and makes it easier to turn corners with its tight steering. The Edge comes in four different trim levels, starting with the SE, with a price that starts at $31,100 and rangies to the Edge ST, with a price that starts at $43,265.
The 2020 Nissan Murano starts at $31,530 for the S model and ranges to $45,330 for the loaded Platinum model. Pricing is somewhat the same as the Ford’s Edge, but the Ford Edge offers so much more for a midsize SUV. The Murano has stable handling, but it’s not an SUV that takes turns well. The steering lacks feedback and there is a good amount of body roll around corners. The Murano estimates 20/28 MPG city and highway, similar to the Edge. The only engine available for the Nissan Murano is the standard 3.5-liter V6 engine with 260 hp that is mated to the Nissan Xtronic automatic transmission. It has adequate power, but cannot outdo the Edge’s new powerful engine.
Ford offers one of the better tech interfaces on the market – the Sync 3 infotainment system with an 8-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, two USB ports, and a six-speaker stereo. These tech features are offered on all trim levels. Ford has a long list of safety features that come standard with Ford’s Co-Pilot360. Ford boasts that it’s “the most advanced suite of available driver-assist technologies among full-line brands.” These features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane keep assist and automatic high-beam headlights.
Nissan’s 2020 Murano offers some safety features similar to Ford’s Edge, such as Automatic Emergency Braking, Blind-Spot Monitoring, a 360-degree Around-View Monitor and Rear-View camera. It comes with standard entertainment features, such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio and voice recognition; but their infotainment system can feel dated with some functions using physical controls instead of a touch screen. It doesn’t compare to the Edge’s new updated system.
Overview
The 2020 Ford Edge and 2020 Nissan Murano are similar SUVs, but the Ford Edge offers more for an SUV with its power, cargo space, and tech features. It is a great SUV that won’t break your budget. Brighton Ford will help you make your choice.
