Big news for the Ford Edge for 2019: every Ford Edge gets a facelift that will update this SUV well into the next decade. Also, the Edge Sport is dead, giving way to the Edge ST. This sporty trim level is bound to impress Edge fans, with its superior horsepower and torque. In this preview guide, we'll explore what's new in this innovative sport utility vehicle.
What's New for 2019?
Ford is giving the Edge a facelift for the 2019 model year, meaning among other things that the front and rear fascias are changing. Most noticeably, Ford is replacing the three-bar front grille with a cascading front grille design like the one on the Ford Explorer. In back, the red line that ran between the taillights has gone away for a cleaner look.

On top of that styling update, every Ford Edge now sports a newly designed eight-speed automatic transmission with rotary shifter and stop-start technology. That's in addition to the growing list of standard features, which now includes the 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine, cloth seats, 18-inch alloy wheels and all-season tires, rearview camera, automatic high beams, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, lane keep assist, Ford's MyKey, post-collision braking system, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, rain-sensing wipers, and SYNC connectivity system with six-speaker stereo, satellite radio, USB port, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi hot spot. Finally, the Ford Edge ST replaces the Ford Edge Sport. More on the soon, but this is big news.
The 2019 Ford Edge ST

Let's just jump right in, shall we? The ST is the performance-oriented trim level. For $42,000, you can get this completely reinvigorated sporty trim. The Edge ST boasts a 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine good for blazing 335 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. That's 20 more horsepower and 30 more pound-feet than the engine offered in the old Edge Sport from last year. The ST comes standard with all-wheel drive and other enhancements like upgraded brakes and a retuned suspension. Optional features have the potential to make your Edge truly sporty and include 13.6-inch front brake rotors, performance brake pads, extra cooling for the radiator, 21-inch wheels with summer performance tires, heated and cooled front seats, navigation, and several active-safety features.
So Have a Seat

In addition to two great engine options, a bevy of great tech and safety features, and updated styling, we like the Ford Edge because of its spacious cabin. The Ford Edge has fairly average cargo room-39.2 cubic feet of storage space behind the rear seats and 73.4 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down-but the cabin is otherwise roomier than its rivals, making for some spacious and comfortable seating. You'll also find plenty of storage space throughout the cabin in the form of convenient cubbies. With all these improvements, we think 2019 will be a good year for the Ford Edge.
